Program Overview

The specialization provides education focused on biological, ecological and environmental aspects of the functioning of soil ecosystems. The program is guaranteed by the Department of Ecosystem Biology in cooperation with the institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and other workplaces, including foreign ones. The research mainly deals with the effects of human activity and global climate changes on cycles of elements and decomposition, formation and stabilization of soil organic matter in connection with the composition and functioning of soil microbial communities. Research activities take place mainly in umava, but also in other areas of the Czech Republic, including in the Tatras or selected arctic areas (Siberia, Greenland).
