Masters in Aesthetics and cultural studies

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Masaryk University

Program Overview

The study of aesthetics and culture offers students a way to understand various forms of art in the present, in history, in social and philosophical contexts, and a deeper understanding of European culture. Unlike other fields of art science, aesthetics represents art as a social or philosophical phenomenon naturally linked to contemporary and local contexts, but at the same time expressing timeless values represented by a given culture. The study of aesthetics as an understanding of art and culture is therefore conceptualized both culturally historically and analytically in courses on the history of aesthetics, terminology, methodology and European culture. Students will acquire skills in the collection and evaluation of professional information, in research and interpretation methods, the ability to critically interpret sources, conduct professional argumentation, terminological and conceptual discipline, ability to work with foreign language text and cultural insight and overview.
