Program Overview

Art history examines the genres of architecture, painting, graphics, sculpture, handicrafts, as well as urban planning, landscape and garden art and their respective developments in Europe and North America. For the period of modernity (19th to 21st century) photography, film and electronic media (video, computer) are added. Research focuses in Osnabr ck include architecture and fine arts of the Middle Ages and the early modern period, especially in France, Italy and Germany. Particular attention is paid to the art history of Lower Saxony. Close cooperation exists with the department of art/art education as well as with humanities disciplines.
