The subject of art history explores the genesis, peculiarity, function and effect of works of art from the most diverse areas of the fine arts: architecture, sculpture, painting, graphics and applied arts as well as design, photography and audiovisual media. The art history master's program provides comprehensive knowledge in the field of history and theory of fine arts as well as methodological competence in dealing with the different eras and genres of art and their specific research problems. In research and teaching, a wide range of art historical research approaches are represented, including political iconography, material iconography, reception aesthetics and the history of science.
