The scientific reflection of music in its diverse historical and contemporary manifestations and contexts is at the center of the master's program Musicology. The students are enabled to do independent research in various fields of musicology. Musicology, as part of the study of history and culture, researches and communicates the genesis, functionality and impact of music. The focus is on the cultural-historical connections between European and non-European music.

"Bachelor s degree or comparable degree in a similar or related subject, if you are not already enrolled at Goethe-University Frankfurt:a university entrance qualification e.g. A-Levels, certified copy of your Bachelor's degree certificate, if the Bachelor's degree has not yet been completed: a transcript of records or equivalent document listing the content of the study programme and average grade, proof of current enrollment in the Bachelor's program, If you did not study your Bachelor's Degree in the field of ""Musicology"" at Goethe University: Proof of English language skills (B2) and another foreign language (B1), CV, If the first degree what Obtained at internationally higher education institution: certificate of German language skills, DSH-2-test (or an equivalent certificate)-TestDaF, Goethe certificate C2, KMK examination: German language diploma second class (DSD II) with level C1 throughout, Telc German C1 higher education, KDS and GDS, Deutsche Sprachpr fung II"
