This course explores various methods of conveying messages and meaning through a diverse range of media, encompassing illustration, motion, and digital platforms. It emphasizes the development of new skills to enhance and enrich your design language. Your studio-based studies will involve collaboration with other members of the creative community and courses, fostering improved workflow abilities and interdisciplinary comprehension. The aim is to nurture you as a creative leader and innovator in visual communication, covering multiple fields such as Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, User Experience Design, Brand Design, Motion Design, Web & App Design, Virtual and Mixed Reality Design, Exhibition Design, and Advertising.

The MA Visual Communication program focuses on helping you establish your identity as an author and thought leader, empowering you to address design challenges in complex cross-media environments, including digital printmaking and still and moving image productions, both in digital and virtual formats. By the end of the course, you will possess a confident design voice, a well-informed design language, and an exceptional portfolio.

The MA Visual Communication program is offered through a partnership between Berlin School of Business and Innovation and the esteemed University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in the UK. UCA is highly regarded and ranks favorably in major UK league tables, having achieved the 13th position among all UK universities in the Guardian League Table 2020.

Age Requirement: At least 21 years old.

Academic Qualifications: A strong undergraduate degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification in the subject or a related field. If the academic requirements are not met, candidates can be assessed based on three years of relevant work experience in illustration, animation, graphic design, or general visual communication, demonstrating the ability to study at the postgraduate level.

English Language Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following English proficiency criteria:

  1. Official English Tests:

    • IELTS: Minimum overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.

    • Password test: Minimum overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.

    • PTE (Academic): Minimum overall score of 56 with a minimum of 51 in each component.

    • TOEFL IBT: Minimum overall score of 80 with minimum scores of 17 (Listening), 18 (Reading), 20 (Speaking), and 17 (Writing).

    • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency: Minimum overall score of 69 with at least 162 in each component.

    • LanguageCert International ESOL SELT: Minimum B2 Communicator High Pass with at least 33 in each component.

    • Duolingo test: Overall score of 105.

  2. Applicants who have obtained a bachelor's degree or above from a recognized university where the medium of instruction was entirely in English (teaching and assessment) must submit a Medium of Instruction Letter.

  3. Canadian nationals who completed a bachelor's degree at an English-speaking university must also submit a Medium of Instruction Letter.

  4. West African Certificates (WAEC AND NECO only): Accepted as a stand-alone with a minimum of C6 in English, issued within the last five years. Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is also accepted with an overall grade of C or above. For Tanzania and Cameroon, an IELTS (or equivalent certificate) is required.

  5. WAEC/NECO must be enhanced by a successful (50%+) Internal English Assessment if issued more than five years ago.

  6. Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge AICE certificates.

  7. International Baccalaureate Diploma: Accepted with specific grade requirements in English Syllabus A and English Syllabus B.

  8. Nationals of majority English-speaking countries who completed their academic qualifications in those countries (Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, and USA) do not need to sit an English test.

Additional Documents: Applicants need to submit their portfolio for review. They will be invited to attend an Applicant Day to have their portfolio reviewed in person, meet the course team, and learn more about the course. Alternatively, they can choose to upload their portfolio digitally through the BSBI Submission Portal. Detailed information will be provided after the application process.
