Geoinformatics - Master of Science

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Osnabrueck University

Program Overview

Geoinformatics is a new interdisciplinary field. It is dedicated to the development and application of methods and concepts of computer science to solve spatial problems with special consideration of the spatial reference of information. It deals with the collection or procurement, with the modeling, with the processing and above all with the analysis as well as the presentation and the dissemination of spatial data. The main areas of work and research include :Geographical information systems (GIS) and specialist information systems derived from them as well as more recent 3D GIS and mobile GIS.OpenGIS and interoperability between GIS and standard software. Development of geodata infrastructures. Multimedia applications in geosciences, especially geoinformation systems and visualizations of Geodata on the Internet.Computer-aided cartography and digital cartography.Databases and meta-databases for spatial issues.Satellite-based navigation and determination of location coordinates (GPS) and the associated digital data acquisition in the field. Digital image processing of remote sensing data. The integration of the subjects geography and system sciences represents a unique opportunity for GI students to combine subjects with great practical and research relevance in Germany. The institute offers a broad and well-founded focus on remote sensing. The master's course in Osnabr ck offers a modern and practical range of courses as well as intensive support for the students. The lecturers can also be contacted outside of events and official office hours. An excellently equipped computer laboratory is available for the students.Furthermore, learning content is conveyed with the help of e-learning modules. With the aim of strong professional qualification, larger projects are integrated into the course. The master's degree in geoinformatics, which is designed to last four semesters, includes the final thesis, courses and accompanying individual and team work. The course offers a scientifically oriented specialization in the fields of geoinformatics and remote sensing. In the second semester, one of the two areas is chosen as the main subject. The fourth semester provides for the preparation of the master's thesis.
