Program Overview

Subject of the master program English as a World Language are the so-called New English . This refers to the variants of English that have established themselves as the common language in the former colonies in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean (Pidgin and Creole languages). Currently, there is a change in the status, function and structure of these language varieties. The Master English as a World Language (ENGAGE) is a joint program of the Department of English and American Studies and the Asia-Africa Institute. During their studies, the students have the opportunity for independent research and receive intensive supervision during their studies.
