The focus of the Master s degree in Empirical Linguistics is on the in-depth expertise and methods that are necessary to explore and analyse natural human languages with empirical procedures. It covers both modern and ancient human languages and aims to describe aspects that are specific to these languages as well as general aspects of language and speech, to classify these aspects on the basis of typology and historical genetics and to explain them.

Bachelor s degree or comparable degree in a similar or related subject, if you are not already enrolled at Goethe-University Frankfurt:a university entrance qualification e.g. A-Levels, certified copy of your Bachelor's degree certificate, if the Bachelor's degree has not yet been completed: a transcript of records or equivalent document listing the content of the study programme and average grade, Letter of Motivation, if the first degree was obtained at an international higher education institution:certificate of German language skills, need to submit other documents depending on your country of origin and your previous education, DSH-2-test (or an equivalent certificate)-TestDaF, Goethe certificate C2, KMK examination: German language diploma second class (DSD II) with level C1 throughout, Telc German C1 higher education, KDS and GDS, Deutsche Sprachpr fung II
