In contrast to philology, linguistics, the modern form of linguistics, does not focus on a single language, but examines the function and structure of all human languages, their differences and similarities. Linguists document languages around the world fieldwork, conduct psychological experiments psycholinguistics, compare languages language typology, and develop formal models grammar theory and computational linguistics for a comprehensive understanding of human language ability.
