MA in Tibetan Studies

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Hamburg

Program Overview

The English-language master's program Tibetan Studies conveys knowledge of the language, culture and history of Tibet and the adjacent Tibetan cultural area from the beginnings of Tibetan civilization to the present day. The study, which is offered in this form in Germany only at a few universities, is research-oriented and should enable the critical examination of theories and methods as well as the independent formulation and processing of scientific problem areas. The main goals of the program include expanding and deepening the knowledge about the historical and cultural developments in Tibet, as well as insights into the key subject-relevant issues and significant problem areas of Tibetology. A semester abroad is an integral part of your studies. Students can spend it at European partner universities or at a university in the Tibetan-speaking area.
