MA in Folklore and cultural history

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Jena

Program Overview

This master's course consists of two sub-subjects. Folklore is an empirical cultural science discipline that focuses on people's ways of life, primarily in the area of their own (regional, German-speaking) culture. The focus is on popular and everyday culture in its oral and written traditions, images, symbols and signs. The cultural history of Jena is primarily concerned with European-Western culture. Cultural history traditionally gains its knowledge from written sources, which are increasingly being supplemented by factual relics, image sources and musical traditions.
