In addition to climate change, the major contemporary challenges include changes in biodiversity, soil degradation, and increases in mass movements. Often the dynamics of such environmental processes require an understanding of the spatial and temporal couplings between the atmosphere, biosphere, relief sphere, pedosphere, and hydrosphere. In addition, the interaction with human activities is of utmost importance.

Bachelor's degree with an examination grade of good 2.5 or better in Geography or Geo-Ecology at the University of Bayreuth, or an equivalent degree, Degree and School Leaving Certificates and Transcripts, German language proficiency test for international university applicants with a result of at least DSH 2, Test of German as a foreign language Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache, TestDaF with a result of at least 4 x TDN 4, German Language Certificate of the Education Ministers Conference, DSD - level two (DSD II), SD Zertifikat C2, Goethe-Zertifikat C2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, certificate of the internal German language exam of the University of Bayreuth with Result corresponds to the DSH 2 level, English Language requirements: TOEFL 95 points, IELTS Academic minimum score of 7.0, Cambridge Certificate: Certificate in Advanced English CAE.
