Curriculum Structure
Autumn Semester
In the first semester, you’ll build a strong foundation in both theory and practice. You will study Cryptography and Security Fundamentals to understand how encryption secures communication, Cryptographic Mathematics to explore the mathematical principles behind security, and Converged Networks and Advanced Programming to learn how networks function and how to develop secure software. Software Engineering will also help refine your development and project skills.
Spring Semester
In the spring, you’ll focus on applying your knowledge to more specialised areas. You will study Log Files and Event Analysis to interpret system data, Biometrics to understand modern authentication technologies, Communication and Security Protocols to explore secure communications, and Network and Host Security to protect systems at multiple levels. You will also begin Master of Engineering Project 1, planning a significant security-focused engineering challenge.
Summer Project
In the final phase, you will complete Master of Engineering Project 2: Project Design and Implementation. This capstone project allows you to design and implement a real-world security solution under faculty supervision, tying together all your learning and creating a strong portfolio piece for your career.
