1 Year On Campus Masters Program
The MEng in Mechanical Engineering at TUS is a cutting‑edge master’s designed to help you engineer real-world solutions by mastering product design, performance optimization, and complex problem solving across industries like automotive, aerospace, biomedical, and energy. It’s ideal for graduates with a Level 8 engineering degree who want to bridge theory with hands-on practice and take their career to the next level in design, innovation, and industry leadership.
Curriculum Structure
Year (1-Year Master’s)
In your MEng year, you’ll start with Sustainable Product and Process Development, learning how to design greener products and improve manufacturing lifecycle efficiency, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with Engineering Design, where you’ll model and optimise mechanical systems using industry-standard simulation tools.
You’ll also develop advanced skills in Data Analytics and Prediction Modelling to interpret engineering data and forecast performance trends, while your Dissertation runs throughout the year, giving you a platform to research, design, and validate a project aligned with industry challenges.
In the second semester, you’ll dive into Advanced Materials to understand high-performance substances and thermal fluid behaviour, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Engineering Design to model fluids and heat transfer in real environments, plus Digitization and Automation Management to prepare for the future of smart manufacturing systems.
Focus areas:
Sustainable design, simulation and optimisation, advanced materials, CFD, data analytics, automation and digitisation, engineering research
Learning outcomes:
Master practical design methodologies, apply advanced simulation tools (FEA, CFD), analyse engineering data, innovate sustainable products and processes, conduct independent research, and lead engineering solutions in industry
Professional alignment (accreditation):
Completing this programme positions you to meet the educational standard for Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, an internationally recognised professional title for engineers
Reputation (employability):
Graduates are prepared for roles in multinational companies across sectors including biomedical and medical device manufacturing, automotive, aeronautical, automation, and energy — and the course emphasises industry relevance and employability through practical methods and project experience
At TUS, the MEng in Mechanical Engineering is designed around practical application from day one, so you won’t just learn theories — you’ll use them. The programme emphasises real engineering practice through hands-on project work and industry engagement, giving you experience with the tools and methods that professional engineers use. You’ll be based at the Moylish Campus, where students benefit from modern science laboratories, well-equipped computer suites, and facilities that support active, applied learning alongside your classmates and faculty. TUS also encourages project work that connects you with industry partners, especially through your Master’s dissertation, giving you a chance to tackle real engineering challenges in a professional context:
Practical workspaces including well-equipped laboratories and computer suites where simulation and analysis take place, supported by the campus’s focus on practical, applied study rather than purely classroom theory.
Access to specialist engineering software for modules like Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Data Analytics, allowing you to use the actual digital tools engineers rely on in industry.
The Master project and dissertation, structured as an opportunity to work on real-world design, optimisation, or research problems that often involve collaboration with industry professionals.
Group-based seminars and project work embedded in core modules, encouraging teamwork and collaborative problem-solving — essential skills for any mechanical engineer.
Potential engagement with industry as part of your year-long dissertation project, helping you build professional networks and apply your learning outside the classroom.
University-wide support through TUS Library and Makerspace resources, giving you access to research materials, collaborative study areas, and technical support for your individual project work.
Graduates of the MEng in Mechanical Engineering at TUS are highly sought after by employers across Ireland and internationally, with many securing professional engineering roles soon after completing their studies. Typical job roles include Mechanical Design Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Process Optimisation Engineer, and Systems Engineering Consultant, all of which offer strong career growth and leadership opportunities:
TUS’s Careers and Employability Service provides personalised support including one‑to‑one career guidance, CV and interview preparation, workshops, and industry networking events to help you transition smoothly into work. The service works closely with academic departments and industry partners to support placements and graduate recruitment.
Graduate outcomes show that TUS alumni enjoy high employment rates, with many finding jobs within nine months of graduation and earning competitive engineering salaries, typically between €35,000 and €39,000, with some starting salaries in the range of €70,000–€79,999.
The university maintains strong links with industry through partnerships and programme collaborations, ensuring graduates have the skills and experience employers demand.
Completing the MEng gives you long-term professional value as it meets the educational standard required to apply for Chartered Engineer status with Engineers Ireland, an internationally recognised professional accreditation that enhances career mobility and credibility.
Graduates often find careers in sectors such as biomedical and medical device manufacturing, automotive, energy systems, automation, and aerospace, with excellent opportunities both in Ireland and abroad.
Further Academic Progression:
After completing the MEng, you could pursue doctoral research (PhD) at TUS or other institutions, particularly in areas such as advanced materials, smart manufacturing, or sustainable systems. You might also explore specialised postgraduate programmes to deepen expertise in fields like robotics, aerospace engineering, or energy engineering.
