Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Autumn Semester

You begin with the core Graduate Research Methods (PO5005) module, which introduces you to social science research design and methodology. Alongside this, you select two electives such as Graduate Seminar in Development (PO5004), Contemporary Political Theory (PO5015), or Institutions and Policies of the EU (PO5017). These modules allow you to explore themes from global development to European integration, building a strong foundation for your chosen focus.

Year 1 – Spring Semester

The second core module, Graduate Research Methods (PS5131), supports your dissertation preparation through workshops and applied research practice. You then choose three electives from a wide range, including Peacebuilding (PO5006), International Co‑operation and Conflict (PO5007), Global Justice (PO5222), Gender and Politics (PO6032), or Comparative Climate Policy and Politics (PO5252). This semester is designed to let you specialise in areas that match your career ambitions, whether in governance, advocacy, or international relations.

Summer Semester

The program culminates in a Dissertation (PO5003) of 10,000–15,000 words, supervised by faculty experts. This independent project allows you to investigate a political issue of your choice, applying the theoretical and methodological skills you’ve developed throughout the year.
