Program Overview

This program provides a broad education in general linguistics, with the emphasis on the interaction between language theory and language description within the research tradition of typological and functional linguistics.The student who completes this program: has a thorough knowledge of developments in general linguistics, in particular of typological, functional, cognitive and anthropological linguistics and is able to understand publications in these areas and to reflect on them critically. It has mastered the skills of field linguistics and is able to independently research the languages of the world, including unknown and undescribed languages

A Bachelor s degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of academic study amounting to a minimum of 180 EC or equivalent, Curriculum Vitae, 2 Letters of recommendation, Letter of Motivation, Diploma(s), Transcript of records, IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL internet-based test: 92, Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): grade A, B or C, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): grade A, B or C, State Examination Dutch as a second language, programme II (NT2-II), VU-NT2 Department, CNaVT Certificate.
