The Archaeology of Northwestern Europe programme combines the best of two worlds. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has a leading position in research and teaching in the field of late prehistory and the Roman era in NW Europe. Archaeology of the Middle Ages and of the early modern period is a specialism of the University of Amsterdam. Thus, the programme Archaeology of Northwestern Europe jointly offered by the two universities covers 3000 years of European archaeology.
