Joint Master's Degree in Aeronautic Engineering and Operation of Space Systems

3 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Seville

Program Overview

The Joint Master's Degree in Aeronautic Engineering and Operation of Space Systems at the University of Seville is a 3-year, 150-ECTS, in-person programme taught in English. It combines the professional training of Aeronautical Engineering with specialised education in the operation of space systems, creating an interdisciplinary profile covering both aeronautical and space engineering.

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1: Students develop advanced knowledge in aeronautical engineering through subjects such as Advanced Flight Mechanics, Space Vehicle Systems, Space Vehicle Dynamics, Jet Engine Design, Advanced Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity and Composite Materials.

Year 2: Students continue with advanced aeronautical and space subjects including Aeronautical Manufacturing Processes, Advanced Avionics, Advanced Air Traffic, Turbomachinery Design, Aircraft Structural Design, Ground Segment and On-board Computer, Satellite Electronic Systems, Space Environment and Space Mission Design and Operations.

Year 3: Students complete remaining specialised and elective subjects together with two master's theses, one for each degree, totalling 27 ECTS. The joint itinerary leads to the two master's degrees.

Focus Areas: Aeronautical Engineering, Space Systems Operation, Aerospace Vehicles, Propulsion, Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity, Aircraft Systems, Spacecraft Systems, Satellite Electronics, Space Environment, Space Missions, Air Transport and Aerospace Manufacturing.

Learning Outcomes: Graduates develop the ability to design and analyse aeronautical systems while also understanding spacecraft operation, satellite systems, space missions and space communications. They gain interdisciplinary skills for addressing complex challenges across the aeronautical and space sectors.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation): The joint itinerary combines the qualifying Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, which provides access to the regulated profession of Aeronautical Engineer in Spain, with specialised training from the Master's Degree in Operation of Space Systems.

Reputation (Employability): The programme creates a specialised dual profile combining professional aeronautical engineering competencies with space-systems expertise, supporting opportunities across aerospace companies, space organisations, satellite communications and emerging space-sector industries.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The programme combines advanced theoretical education with specialised engineering projects, practical space-systems knowledge and independent research. Students work across both aeronautical and space engineering disciplines, gaining experience applicable to real aerospace challenges.

Key aspects of experiential learning include:

  • Integrated Engineering Study: Students apply knowledge across aeronautical engineering and space-systems operation.

  • Space Systems Applications: Practical study covers satellite electronics, spacecraft systems, space environment and mission design and operations.

  • Engineering Projects: Students work with advanced aerospace topics such as vehicle systems, propulsion, aerodynamics, avionics and aircraft structures.

  • Master's Theses: Students complete two individual master's theses, one for each degree, allowing specialised or multidisciplinary work.

  • Research-Based Learning: The programme develops skills for scientific and professional problem-solving through advanced aerospace and space-systems study.

This combination provides practical and research-oriented experience across both traditional aerospace engineering and the space sector.

Progression & Future Opportunities

The joint master's degree creates a broad professional profile by combining the regulated Aeronautical Engineer qualification with specialised knowledge of space-system operations. This allows graduates to pursue opportunities across both established aerospace industries and the expanding space sector.

Key opportunities include:

  • Aeronautical Industry: Opportunities in aircraft design, development, certification, manufacturing and aerospace systems.

  • Space Industry: Roles involving satellite operations, space missions, spacecraft systems and space communications.

  • Space Agencies: The dual profile can support opportunities with national and international space agencies and related organisations.

  • New Space Sector: Graduates can pursue opportunities with satellite manufacturers, launch companies, space-data businesses and emerging space companies.

  • Research & Development: The programme provides a strong foundation for technical R&D and innovation projects in aerospace and space systems.

  • Further Academic Progression: Graduates can progress to doctoral studies in areas such as automation, electronics, telecommunications, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering.

The combination of professional aeronautical engineering and space-systems expertise provides flexibility for long-term careers across both sectors.
