The very first medical faculty of Turkey, found under Republic era, is Ankara Medical Faculty which was opened on October 19, 1945. The Institute of the History of Medicine was founded in 1946 and until 1981 named as a "chair" and later as a department of "Medical History and Deontology". It is now the Department of Deontology ( Medical Ethics). The department is interested in "medical ethics", "history of medicine", "medical deontology" and "bioethics"
