Master of Science in Cybersecurity

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

Abu Dhabi University Dubai

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity at Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is a two-year, full-time postgraduate programme designed to give you advanced knowledge and hands-on expertise to protect information systems, networks and data against evolving digital threats. You’ll study core cyber defence skills — from cryptography and ethical hacking to risk analysis and digital forensics — preparing you for leadership roles in cybersecurity practice and strategy.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 — Foundations & Core Cyber Defence:
In your first year, you build a solid cybersecurity foundation with key areas such as Cryptography and Secure Systems, Ethical Hacking and Penetration Testing, Network Security Principles and Risk Assessment & Vulnerability Analysis. These modules equip you with technical skills to identify, analyse and defend against security threats while also understanding the theory behind secure computing environments.

Year 2 — Advanced Topics & Applied Research:
In the second year you deepen your expertise with advanced topics like Digital Forensics, Incident Response & Cyber Defence, Security Policy and Governance, and other elective or research-oriented modules that tackle real-world challenges. The programme often includes capstone projects or independent work where you apply what you’ve learned to realistic problems in cyber-security settings, demonstrating professional-level analysis and strategy.

Focus areas:
Cryptography; ethical hacking and penetration testing; network and system defence; digital forensics; risk and security management; cyber policy and governance.

Learning outcomes:
You’ll graduate ready to assess complex cyber threats, design and implement secure solutions, conduct forensic investigations, lead cybersecurity strategy, and communicate risk and defence approaches clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Professional alignment (accreditation):
This MSc is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), giving you a recognised postgraduate qualification in cybersecurity that is acknowledged locally and internationally.

Reputation (employability rankings):
Abu Dhabi University is one of the UAE’s prominent higher education institutions with strong engineering and technology programmes; its cybersecurity graduates are well-positioned for careers such as Cybersecurity Analyst, Security Architect, Incident Response Specialist, Security Consultant and other high-demand roles in private and public sectors.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Students develop applied expertise by conducting original research in a chosen specialization, utilizing advanced laboratory facilities, and engaging with industry and community-focused projects. This hands-on learning is facilitated by the university's research-oriented environment and partnerships. The experiential learning approach is implemented through several key components:

  • Primary Research Focus: The core practical component is a substantial Master's Thesis. Students must complete an independent research project (12 credit hours) that involves designing, implementing, and evaluating a novel solution to a computing problem under the supervision of a faculty advisor.

  • Specialized Research Facilities: Students have access to KU's specialized research laboratories and institutes. These include labs within the Center for Cyber-Physical Systems (C2PS), the KU Center for Autonomous Robotics Systems (KUCARS), and the KU Center for Digital Supply Chain and Operations Management, depending on their chosen specialization (e.g., Data Science, Robotics, Cybersecurity).

  • Industry-Standard Software & Tools: While specific applications are not listed, the research-centric nature of the program implies the use of professional-grade tools relevant to each specialization, such as machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), robotics simulators (Gazebo, ROS), cybersecurity analysis tools, and high-performance computing clusters.

  • Industry and Community Engagement: The program encourages practical application through industrial projects and community service. Students may engage in collaborative projects with industry partners or apply their skills to address community needs, linking academic knowledge with real-world impact.
