The MFA in Art and Media at NYU Abu Dhabi is a dynamic, interdisciplinary studio-based graduate degree that combines contemporary art practice with theoretical study, encouraging experimentation across different media and concepts. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In the first year, students build a strong foundation in artistic research, theory, and their own evolving practice. Courses such as Graduate Seminar I: Theory and Individual Studio Practice and Critique I help students develop their conceptual voice and technical skills, while electives allow exploration in areas like Time and Memory or Archives, Methods, and Screens. The spring term focuses on Graduate Seminar II: Art Eco Systems, Writing for Artists, and further critique work, culminating in a mid-program review that prepares students for advanced artistic development.

Year 2
The second year emphasizes specialization and professional realization. Semester three combines Graduate Seminar III: Theory and Individual Studio Practice and Critique III with electives tailored to each student’s interests, from Social and Public Works to Teaching, Learning, and Pedagogy for the Arts. In the final semester, students complete their MFA Thesis Project and Exhibition, presenting a major body of work publicly along with a written exposition that demonstrates their creative research at the highest level.
