MA Composition for Film, TV and Games

The MA Composition for Film, TV, and Games program offers comprehensive professional training to develop your skills in writing and producing commercially viable music for the media industries. This 18-month full-time course commences in January.

This degree focuses on exploring specialized compositional techniques, enhancing your practical knowledge of hybrid studio technologies, and equipping you with advanced production skills necessary for a successful career in the industry.

The program aligns closely with industry practices and places a strong emphasis on working with authentic project briefs, meeting deadlines, and operating within a professional environment that boasts state-of-the-art recording and media technology. You will learn how to effectively process critical feedback, interpret directives, iterate your work, and deliver a final product that meets the requirements of the project in terms of timing, budget, and creative vision.

Additionally, you will acquire essential competencies such as preparing for and managing recording sessions, understanding music budgets, and navigating the media industry as a composer. Collaboration is encouraged, allowing you to build networks with post-graduate directors, screenwriters, editors, and producers, while also providing opportunities to contribute to professional projects.

In the final six months of the program, you will engage in self-directed independent study as you conceive and produce your major research project. This project is supported through mentoring and staged draft submissions. It can take the form of a collection of creative works, a significant large-scale production accompanied by critical reflective analysis, or an in-depth and relevant dissertation piece.
