MA Interior Design

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University for the Creative Arts Canterbury Campus

Program Overview

The MA Interior Design at UCA (Canterbury) is perfect for creative thinkers who want to push the boundaries of interior and spatial design. You’ll explore how people experience spaces, experiment with materials and technologies, and develop your own design voice through research, making, and critical reflection.

Curriculum Structure

The course is designed to help you grow as a designer while balancing practical making with critical thinking:

  • Launch & Experimentation and Practice: You’ll kick off with a Launch week, meeting peers and tutors, taking part in site visits, and starting collaborative projects. During Experimentation and Practice, you’ll explore new approaches, test materials, and develop your research skills to inform your design thinking.

  • Critical Context & Opportunity Week: Critical Context helps you understand how theory, history, and social context influence design, while Opportunity Week gives you a taste of real-world projects by collaborating with external partners, helping you see how your ideas work outside the studio.

  • Studio Practice & Practice Context: In Studio Practice, you focus on developing your individual project under tutor guidance, while Practice Context pushes you to work on team projects, present your research, and refine your ideas collaboratively.

  • Realisation: The final stage, Realisation, brings everything together. You’ll produce a polished, research-informed design outcome — whether that’s a spatial intervention, installation, or fully realized interior project — ready to showcase your skills and creativity.
