Program Overview

Students on the Master of Arts (MA) and the Master of Music (MMus) participate in exactly the same Jazz Department classes, ensembles and other activities.The MMus is identical at jazz department level but includes the addition of a Master’s Project, which can be: a concert with commentary; a recording-based project; a dissertation; or a mixture of these.Jazz Postgraduate Students usually take the two-year MA programme as undertaking their own projects tends to be something with which they are already familiar.

Additional Information & Requirements

Master of Music: A performance standard at least equivalent to that of a recognized music performance diploma in your Principal Study. IELTS Academics: 7.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each components. The academic written work must be on a musical subject and should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words in length. In addition to the written work you should provide a project proposal in which you describe your plans and aims for a potential research project. Research projects can be variable in format: common models are a concert with an accompanying written commentary, or a written dissertation.
