Digital Business (MSc)

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Queens University Belfast

Program Overview

The MSc Digital Business at Queen’s University Belfast is designed for students who want to blend business strategy with the latest digital and AI-driven technologies. It’s a great fit if you’re aiming to future-proof your career and learn how digital tools shape smarter decisions, better customer experiences, and innovative business models.

Curriculum Structure

Semester 1

Your first semester builds your foundation in how digital transformation really works inside organisations. In Digital Business Strategy, you’ll explore tools like AI, blockchain, cloud systems, and social media to understand how companies compete globally. Alongside that, Generative AI & Business Intelligence helps you master prompt engineering, data modelling, and ethical AI use, while Marketing in the Digital Age shows you how consumer behaviour and digital channels come together to create impactful marketing strategies.

Semester 2

In the second semester, you dive deeper into advanced digital skills. Analytics with AI teaches you how to analyse real data using AI tools and present insights that guide strategic decisions. You also study Cyber Security & Digital Risk Management, where you learn how to spot cyber threats, manage digital vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR. Finally, Digital Supply Chain Management shows you how emerging tech—such as IoT, blockchain, and VR/AR—is transforming the way goods, data, and operations flow across global networks.

Optional Modules

You can shape your degree by choosing modules that match your interests. AI Entrepreneurship & Consulting is perfect if you're excited by the world of AI startups or want to develop consulting skills. Or, if you’re fascinated by breakthrough tech, Emerging Technologies for Business lets you explore areas like quantum computing, the metaverse, and blockchain—always from a business impact perspective.

Semester 3 (Capstone Project)

Your final semester is all about applying everything you’ve learned. In the Digital Business Capstone, you work with a real organisation or industry issue and design a digital transformation solution using insights from strategy, analytics, ethics, and emerging technology.

Focus Areas

Digital strategy, generative AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, digital innovation, consulting, sustainable and emerging technologies.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this MSc, you’ll know how to design effective digital strategies, use AI-backed analytics for business decision-making, manage cyber and digital risk, and lead innovative change within any kind of organisation.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

Queen’s Business School is triple accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA) — a distinction earned by less than 1% of business schools worldwide, signalling high-quality teaching and global recognition.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)

Queen’s is a prestigious Russell Group university, known for strong academic standards. It ranks 9th in the UK for graduate prospects (Complete University Guide 2026), and its business research is highly respected, with 81% rated world-leading or internationally excellent in REF 2021.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What makes the MSc Digital Business at Queen’s truly stand out is how practical the learning experience feels from day one. Instead of just studying how digital transformation works, you actually do it — through group projects, real case scenarios, hands-on analytics work, and a major capstone project where you tackle a real organisational challenge. You’ll study in Queen’s Business School’s modern, tech-enabled environment, giving you access to collaborative workspaces, computer labs, analytics tools, and industry-focused facilities that mirror the digital workplaces you’ll eventually join.

Here’s how that hands-on learning flows directly into your experience:

  • Group projects and real case scenarios: Teaching involves role plays, scenario planning, case studies, and plenty of group work. You’ll also deliver group presentations and collaborative assignments that build teamwork and communication skills.

  • Digital Business Capstone: Your final semester is dedicated to a capstone project where you investigate a real company or challenge, collect data, analyse it, and design a practical digital business solution.

  • Use of analytics and AI tools: In the Analytics with AI module, you work directly with advanced analytics software to build AI-driven solutions and visualise complex data sets.

  • Modern digital learning spaces: The Queen’s Business School Student Hub features a 150-seat computer lab, breakout rooms, and a trading room — great for running data projects, collaborating with classmates, or practising digital strategy work in a professional setting.

  • Industry-facing environment: The Hub also includes a Business Engagement & Employability area where you can meet employers, attend industry talks, and connect your coursework to real business challenges.

  • Guided independent research: For the capstone, academic advisors support you through each step — from shaping your research question to turning it into a practical digital transformation proposal.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates from the MSc Digital Business at Queen’s step into the job market with a powerful mix of digital strategy, analytics, and innovation skills that employers actively look for. Many move into roles where they help organisations adapt, innovate, and make smarter data-driven decisions. Typical career paths include Digital Strategy Consultant, Digital Transformation Specialist, Data Analytics Manager, or Technology Business Analyst, all of which make strong use of the expertise you develop throughout the programme.

Queen’s also gives you a structured support system to help you launch your career with confidence:

  • Dedicated career support that stays with you: The Careers, Employability & Skills (CES) team offers one-to-one career guidance, CV reviews, interview prep, and tailored advice — and you can continue using these services for up to two years after graduation.

  • MyFuture career portal: You’ll have access to Queen’s online platform where you can search jobs and internships, sign up for employer events, and book appointments with careers consultants.

  • International Student Employability Programme: If you’re an international student, this programme helps you understand the UK job market, improve applications, and get ready for employer interviews and assessment centres.

  • Future-Ready Award & skill development: Queen’s Future-Ready Roadmap supports you in developing leadership, teamwork, and innovation skills, and lets you earn a formal award that strengthens your employability profile.

  • Strong employer connections: Queen’s works closely with local and global companies, running employer talks, fairs, networking events, and real-world challenges that help you build contacts while you study.

  • Value that lasts: With digital transformation expanding across every industry, the skills you gain — especially in areas like AI, analytics, digital risk, and emerging tech — stay relevant long after graduation.

  • Excellent graduate outcomes: Queen’s reports that 93% of its graduates are in employment or further study within 15 months (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey, 2022/23).

Further Academic Progression:
If you’re thinking long-term, the MSc also sets you up well for PhD study in areas like digital innovation, business analytics, or technology management. You could also continue with higher-level qualifications such as the Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Management and Leadership, which aligns with the digital strategy and leadership skills developed in the programme.
