International Business MSc

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

Loughborough University

Program Overview

The MSc International Business at Loughborough University equips you with a global mindset and practical skills to navigate complex international business environments. It’s a one-year, full-time course that blends academic theory with a hands-on consultancy project, making you ready for real-world international management challenges.

Curriculum Structure

Since this is a one-year master’s, the course unfolds over three phases — Semester 1, Semester 2, and the Summer Consultancy Project.

  • Semester 1: You’ll start with core modules like International and Cross Cultural Management, where you’ll deepen your understanding of managing diverse teams and cross-cultural dynamics. You’ll also study International Business Environment, analysing the political, economic, and technological forces shaping global markets. Complementing these is Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which explores how new ideas emerge, how they’re commercialised, and what drives entrepreneurial success.

  • Semester 2: You’ll build on your first-semester knowledge with Strategy Analysis, learning how organisations formulate and execute strategy at business and corporate levels. You also take International Business Negotiations, where you work on real-life negotiation simulations, studying the influence of culture, power dynamics, and strategy. Alongside, there’s Personal Development for Employability, which helps you sharpen academic research, reflective writing, and self-branding skills for a global business career.

  • Summer (Consultancy Project): The final piece is a Consultancy Project (45 credits), where you work in a group to tackle a live business problem for an external client. Here, you’ll apply theory you’ve learned, conduct research, communicate with stakeholders, and deliver value — all while gaining real consulting experience.

You also get to choose two optional modules, such as Digital Marketing, Corporate Finance for Non-Specialists, Information Systems & Management, Small Business & Entrepreneurship, or Social Enterprise & Inclusive Entrepreneurship, depending on what areas excite you most.

Focus Areas:
Cross-cultural leadership, global strategy, sustainability and responsible business, innovation & entrepreneurship, international negotiations, and digital/global marketing.

Learning Outcomes:
Graduates will develop a global mindset, advanced cross-cultural management skills, strategic decision-making ability, and consultancy experience; they’ll be confident in navigating international business environments, understanding global risks and opportunities, and driving responsible business practices.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
Loughborough Business School holds triple accreditation — AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA — signalling rigorous academic quality and strong industry relevance.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

One of the best things about the MSc International Business at Loughborough is how much real experience you gain while you study. Instead of simply learning concepts, you’ll spend the year working in multicultural teams, tackling real business problems, and using tools that global companies rely on today. It’s a hands-on environment where you get to practise decision-making, build confidence, and sharpen the kind of skills employers look for.

And because Loughborough is known for its student experience, you’ll have access to some excellent facilities and learning resources that support your development. All of that comes together in several practical learning opportunities, such as:

  • Real Consultancy Project: You’ll take on a substantial live consultancy brief for an external organisation, working as a team to research, analyse, and deliver recommendations — exactly like a real consulting firm would.

  • Practical Data & Digital Skills: Through the Business School’s micro-credentials, you can boost your digital capability using platforms like DataCamp, where you learn data and AI skills with real-world datasets.

  • Industry Masterclasses & Guest Speakers: You’ll regularly hear from business leaders and alumni, giving you a sharper understanding of global business challenges and career paths.

  • Cross-Cultural Group Work: Many modules involve team-based tasks with international classmates, helping you build the collaborative and intercultural skills global employers value.

  • LB Hub Collaboration Space: You’ll have access to the Business School’s modern, flexible learning hub designed for teamwork, presentations, and group research.

  • Pilkington Library: A well-resourced library with quiet rooms, group spaces, computers, and extended access — ideal for research, writing, and project work.

  • 24/7 Computer Labs: Over 2,000 PCs are available across campus, with many spaces open all day and night for whenever inspiration (or deadlines!) strike.
