Program Overview

This MSc is perfect if you’re looking to take your career into the global business arena with a strong marketing focus. It combines core business knowledge with hands-on marketing skills, helping you understand how companies succeed internationally and how you can make an impact in global markets.

Curriculum Structure

This one-year programme is designed to give you a deep dive into both business management and marketing, with plenty of opportunities to apply what you learn in real-world situations.

  • Core Learning:
In the first part of the course, you’ll explore Economics, Finance and Accounting, building the foundations you need to make smart business decisions anywhere in the world. Modules like Strategy and Ethics in International Business Management will teach you how to approach complex business challenges and create sustainable growth strategies.

Next, People & Organisation helps you understand how teams, culture, and leadership function in multinational companies, so you can work effectively across borders. Meanwhile, Digital Business and Marketing shows how technology is shaping global business and marketing practices, from big data to digital campaigns, helping you craft strategies that really work.

You’ll also develop strong research and professional skills through Professional Business and Research Skills and learn the ins and outs of Marketing Communications, so you’re ready to design campaigns that engage audiences worldwide.

  • Optional / Experiential Learning:
Towards the end, you can either do an Independent Business Project where you apply your skills to a real marketing problem, or take part in an International Business Study Field Trip, getting hands-on experience and seeing how global businesses operate in different countries.

Focus areas: International business strategy, global marketing, digital transformation, cross-cultural management, finance for managers, marketing communications.

Learning outcomes: Graduate ready to make strategic business decisions, design and execute international marketing strategies, manage cross-border teams, and thrive in global organisations.

Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by AACSB and CIM, giving your degree strong recognition and credibility in the business world.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

This MSc is designed to take you beyond the classroom and into the real world of international business and marketing. You’ll get hands-on experience applying what you learn, working on real business challenges, and collaborating with peers from around the globe. Royal Holloway provides a supportive environment where expert academics guide you, but you’ll also learn by doing — whether through research projects, company visits, or group work.

Here’s how you’ll put your knowledge into action:

  • International Business Study Field Trip: Take an optional trip to a different country — in past years, students visited places like Helsinki and Tallinn. You’ll meet professionals, explore real companies, and see how cultural and business differences shape international operations.

  • Independent Business Project (Marketing): If you prefer, you can work on a 10,000-word project tackling a real marketing or business problem. This is your chance to dig deep, analyze data, and come up with solutions that could actually be applied in the real world.

  • Group Work, Presentations, and Case Studies: Forget purely academic exams — you’ll develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills through collaborative projects, presentations, and live business case studies.

  • Supportive Academic and Research Environment: You’ll have access to expert staff and a vibrant international student community, giving you guidance and feedback as you explore ideas and develop strategies for real business challenges.
