Management for Business Excellence (MSc)

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University of Warwick

Program Overview

If you join the MSc Management for Business Excellence at the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), you'll spend 12 months learning how to lead organisations toward real, measurable excellence — not just vaguely “better,” but quality-driven, efficient, and stakeholder-aware. This course is perfect if you dream of being the person who spots where a business can improve, then rolls up your sleeves and makes that improvement happen.

Curriculum Structure

This is a one-year full-time master’s — but that doesn’t mean it’s simple. Over the year, you combine taught modules with a major project, getting both classroom theory and hands-on, real-world insight.

What You’ll Learn

In the taught portion, you’ll go through core modules such as “Creating Business Excellence”, “Leadership and Excellence”, “Process Improvement using Six Sigma”, “Organisations, People and Performance”, and “Robust Decision Making” among others.

These classes often use case studies, simulations, and group work — not endless lectures — so you get to think, discuss, and solve real problems. You’ll see how different parts of a business interlock, how culture and people shape performance, and how structured frameworks like the EFQM Excellence Model guide transformation.

Later in the year, you’ll channel that learning into a substantial individual project — roughly 600 hours of work — where you research and propose improvements for a business (real or hypothetical). It’s a chance to explore what matters to you, and to show you can make a real difference.

Focus areas

Quality management, continuous improvement, process optimisation, leadership and change management, stakeholder-based strategy, organisational excellence, business culture & performance.

Learning outcomes

You’ll emerge able to diagnose where a company is underperforming — across systems, departments, culture or processes — and design evidence-based strategies to improve quality and efficiency. You’ll learn to lead cross-functional teams, make informed decisions with real impact, and steer businesses toward sustainable excellence using globally recognised frameworks.

Professional alignment (accreditation)

The programme is founded on the EFQM Excellence Model, a globally respected framework for organisational quality and excellence. The course is delivered by WMG, which combines academic rigour with decades of industry partnerships — meaning what you learn is built around real-world needs, not just academic theory.

Reputation (employability & rankings)

The parent institution—University of Warwick—ranks 9th in the UK across major league tables. It is also listed as the 6th most targeted UK university by top-tier graduate employers, which speaks volumes about how strongly graduates are sought after in the job market.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At WMG, you don’t just sit in lectures — you roll up your sleeves and tackle real business challenges from day one. The programme is designed so you actively apply what you’re learning, work closely with an international group of classmates, and gain practical skills that you can immediately see in action. Small class sizes mean you’ll have plenty of interaction, discussion, and personal guidance from lecturers who are often industry experts themselves.

Here’s how your learning comes alive:

  • Simulations, case studies, and group work: Work on real-world scenarios with your classmates, analysing business processes, spotting areas for improvement, and proposing practical solutions — just like you would in a consultancy or leadership role.

  • Industry-informed teaching & guest speakers: Learn directly from instructors with significant industry experience, and hear from external business leaders who share insights from the frontlines of organisational excellence.

  • Blended learning environment: Mix of live seminars, online tutorials, and self-paced study gives you the flexibility to explore topics deeply while still being connected to peers and faculty.

  • Major individual project: Dive into a substantial research project, applying frameworks like the EFQM Excellence Model to a real business challenge and delivering actionable recommendations — it’s your chance to shine and show your skills.

  • Reflective practice: Throughout the year, you’ll reflect on your learning and experiences, helping you turn theory into practice and develop as a continuous, self-aware learner — a skill highly valued by employers.

Every element of the programme is geared toward giving you confidence, hands-on experience, and a portfolio of skills you can show employers.
