1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University of Brighton

Program Overview

The MSc in International Marketing at the University of Brighton gives you the skills and insight to understand how marketing works across global markets. It’s perfect if you want a career with multinational brands, international agencies, or any role where marketing meets global culture, strategy, and consumer behaviour.

Curriculum Structure

Building Core Skills
You’ll start by learning the fundamentals of marketing that every professional needs. In Marketing Planning and Strategy, you’ll discover how to analyse markets, spot opportunities, and create strategies that work internationally. Buyer Behaviour explores what motivates customers across different cultures, and Responsible Marketing ensures you can make ethical, socially-aware marketing decisions — a must in global business.

Specialising in International Marketing
As you progress, the focus shifts to global marketing. In International Marketing, you’ll explore how brands adapt to different markets, how culture influences purchasing habits, and how to balance standardisation versus localisation in marketing strategies. Business Solutions in Action gives you hands-on experience tackling real client challenges, often working in teams with other master’s students, so you can apply theory to real-world international business scenarios. Research Methodologies and Methods teaches you how to gather, analyse, and interpret data — skills you’ll use in your dissertation or placement project.

Culminating Experience
To finish your MSc, you can either complete a Dissertation on an international marketing topic of your choice or take a Work Placement Project, where you’ll work in a real company — often with a global focus — applying everything you’ve learned to solve actual marketing challenges.

Focus areas: International Marketing Strategy, Global Consumer Behaviour, Responsible & Ethical Marketing, Market Analysis & Planning, Research Methods, Live Client & Placement Projects

Learning outcomes: Graduates will be able to design and implement marketing strategies for international markets, understand cross-cultural consumer behaviour, apply responsible marketing practices, conduct rigorous research, and develop global brand or market-entry plans.

Professional alignment (accreditation): This MSc is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), so you can work towards a professional marketing qualification alongside your degree. The Business School also holds AACSB accreditation, ensuring international recognition of its quality.

Reputation (employability & rankings): The University of Brighton is ranked among the top 4% of universities worldwide, meaning your degree carries strong academic and professional credibility.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The International Marketing MSc at Brighton is designed so you graduate not just with knowledge, but with real-world skills and confidence. Right from the start, you’ll work on live business challenges, collaborate with peers and clients, and, if you choose the placement option, spend up to a year gaining hands-on experience in a real company. This approach ensures that by the time you finish your degree, you’ll have both practical marketing experience and a portfolio that stands out to employers worldwide.

Here’s how that practical experience comes together:

  • Live client projects through the Business Solutions in Action module, where you’ll work in teams to tackle genuine business challenges and apply your international marketing knowledge.

  • Group work, presentations, and reports, giving you valuable experience in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving — just like in a professional marketing role.

  • Optional 9–12 month paid placement year for full-time September starters, allowing you to gain hands-on experience in a global or international business environment and complete a Work Placement Project instead of a dissertation.

  • Support from the Placements & Internships team and Careers Connect portal, helping you find internships, prepare applications and interviews, and discover relevant jobs while you study.

  • Opportunities to work with global brands during placements, giving you insight into international operations and boosting your employability.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates from the International Marketing MSc often step into exciting roles with global brands and organisations. Typical positions include International Marketing Manager, Brand Manager, Export/Market Development Executive, or Global Account Manager, giving you the chance to work with international clients, navigate cross-cultural strategies, and make a real impact on global markets. With the combination of academic knowledge, hands-on projects, and optional placements, you’ll graduate with the skills and confidence employers value.

Here’s how Brighton supports your career journey:

  • Dedicated career support from the Careers and Employability team, including CV and cover letter guidance, mock interviews, mentoring, and access to placements and graduate job listings through Careers Connect.

  • Strong graduate outcomes, with nearly 9 out of 10 graduates working or continuing studies within 15 months of finishing their course.

  • Valuable industry connections and placement opportunities, including an optional paid placement year, with past placement partners such as Pepsi, Renault, Dior, Brandwatch, and New Look — giving you real-world experience to enhance your CV.

  • Professional accreditation: The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accreditation allows you to work towards a globally recognised marketing qualification alongside your MSc, boosting your career credentials.

  • Diverse career prospects, including brand management, digital marketing analysis, product management, account management, content/media planning, and export or international marketing roles.

Further Academic Progression:
If you want to continue your studies, this MSc provides a solid foundation for research-level degrees such as an MPhil or PhD in marketing, international business, consumer behaviour, or related fields. The research skills you develop during your dissertation or placement project prepare you for academic, consultancy, or strategy-focused roles in the future.
