MSc Marketing

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University of Stirling

Program Overview

The MSc Marketing at the University of Stirling is designed to help you understand how modern marketing really works — from the way consumers think to how brands craft strategies across digital and physical channels. It’s a great fit if you enjoy creative problem-solving, want to work closely with businesses, and are looking for a degree that blends practical learning with strong academic grounding.

Curriculum Structure

Taught Modules (First Two Semesters)

Your first two semesters introduce you to the core foundations of the field through modules like Strategic Marketing Practice, Omnichannel Marketing, and Consumer Behaviour. In Strategic Marketing Practice, you’ll actually work inside the Markstrat online simulation, where you make decisions on pricing, budgeting, product development, and market strategy — just like a real marketing team competing in a live market.
You’ll also explore how brands communicate across multiple channels and dive into what drives consumer decisions, helping you build a rounded understanding of marketing in today’s fast-moving world.

Consultancy Project (Final Semester)

In the summer, you step out of the classroom and into a real consultancy project, working in teams to solve marketing challenges for companies such as the National Wallace Monument, Stirling Albion Football Club, or Scottish Biomedical. This hands-on experience gives you the chance to gather insights, develop strategies, and pitch your recommendations directly to clients.
Alongside this, you’ll take part in the Flying Start Leadership Programme, which focuses on building practical skills—like teamwork, communication, and leadership—that help you stand out in the workplace.

Focus Areas

“Strategic marketing, omnichannel communication, consumer behaviour, research-led decision making, simulation-based strategy development, ethical and responsible marketing.”

Learning Outcomes

“You’ll learn how to design and implement marketing strategies, carry out research to support real decisions, understand customer behaviour in different contexts, and apply responsible, ethical marketing principles.”

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

This program is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), giving you exemptions from several modules in the CIM Professional Diploma — a valuable boost if you plan to pursue industry-recognised qualifications.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)

Stirling Management School is AACSB-accredited, placing it among the top business schools globally. The university also ranks 2nd in Scotland for Marketing in the Complete University Guide 2025, highlighting strong teaching, student experience, and graduate success.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What really makes the MSc Marketing at Stirling stand out is how much you learn by actually doing marketing. You won’t just sit in lectures—you’ll experiment, analyse, solve real business problems, and work closely with organisations that rely on your ideas. From interactive simulations to hands-on consultancy work, the course is designed to help you build confidence and practical skills that employers genuinely value.

And here’s how all of that comes to life:

  • Markstrat Strategic Simulation – In Strategic Marketing Practice, you’ll step into a realistic online marketplace where you manage budgets, make branding decisions, respond to competitors, and see the impact of your choices instantly. It feels a lot like running your own marketing department.

  • Live Consultancy Project – During the final semester, you’ll work with real clients — past partners have included the National Wallace Monument, Stirling Albion Football Club, and Scottish Biomedical. You’ll research their challenges, pitch ideas, and deliver solutions directly to the organisation.

  • Industry Guest Speakers – Throughout the year, you’ll meet marketing professionals who share real-world examples, campaign insights, and future trends. It’s a great way to understand what the industry expects — and start building your network.

  • Team-Based Learning – Many assignments are completed in groups, giving you plenty of experience collaborating, presenting, and thinking critically as part of a team.

  • Site Visits – You’ll also take part in visits to organisations like ASDA and New Lanark Visitor Centre, giving you a closer look at how marketing works in practice across different industries.

  • Flying Start Leadership Programme – Stirling includes leadership development as part of your degree. You’ll learn how to communicate confidently, manage conflict, and lead teams — skills that genuinely help you stand out in interviews.

If you enjoy learning through real experiences rather than just theory, Stirling gives you an environment where you can experiment, make decisions, and see your ideas come to life.
