MSc Artificial Intelligence

1 Year On Campus Masters Program

University of Bristol

Program Overview

The MSc Artificial Intelligence at University of Bristol delivers a deep, technically rigorous grounding in modern AI and machine-learning methods, combining mathematical theory with hands-on implementation and real-world datasets. It suits students with a numerate or computing background who aim for research, advanced AI engineering, or roles deploying AI in industry or societal contexts.

Curriculum Structure
In the first part of the course, students take Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (or, if needed, Software Development: Programming and Algorithms / Statistical Computing and Empirical Methods), building the core mathematical, statistical and programming skills essential for advanced AI work.
Next, they progress to Large-Scale Data Engineering, Advanced Deep Learning, and Theory and Applications of Large Language Models, where they learn to build scalable AI/ML pipelines, design and train deep neural networks, and explore state-of-the-art language-model architectures.
They also study AI, Societies, Ethics and Futures, examining ethical, societal and environmental impacts of AI — ensuring they understand not just how to build AI systems, but the responsibility that comes with it.
Finally, students choose between an Individual Research Dissertation or an Industry Team Project, enabling them to apply their skills to either a research question or an industry-relevant AI challenge.

Focus areas:
“Deep learning, large-scale data engineering, large-language models, AI theory and algorithms, AI ethics & societal impact, applied AI research/project work”

Learning outcomes :
“Master core AI and machine-learning algorithms; build, train and deploy deep learning and large-language models; handle large-scale datasets; critically evaluate ethical and social dimensions of AI; design and execute independent AI research or industry-level AI solutions.”

Professional alignment (accreditation):
The programme equips graduates for careers as AI engineers, ML researchers, data-science professionals or PhD-level research — meeting industry and academic demand for advanced AI expertise.

Reputation (employability rankings):
