MSc Digital Marketing Leadership

1 Years On Campus Masters Program

Buckinghamshire New University

Program Overview

The MSc Digital Marketing Leadership is designed to help you step confidently into senior marketing roles by giving you advanced skills in strategy, digital channels, data analytics, and leadership. It’s a great fit if you want to shape brand strategy, lead digital initiatives, or build a career in high-growth areas of marketing.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Core Learning & Digital Strategy Foundations

You’ll begin with Digital Business Strategy, where you explore how modern businesses operate online — from managing data and digital transformation to understanding global opportunities. You’ll also dive into Digital Marketing and Data Analytics in International Business, learning how to gather insights from digital platforms, understand customer behaviour, and design strategies that create real value.

Alongside this, Social Media Marketing and Analytics equips you with the skills to plan and measure impactful social campaigns, while Digital Channels Planning and Campaign Management teaches you how to manage multi-channel marketing activities, from content planning to budgeting and performance evaluation.

On the leadership side, modules such as Leadership in Client Management and Digital Leadership help you build the confidence to manage clients, guide teams, and navigate the ethical and strategic challenges that arise in digital environments.

Year 2 – Professional Experience or Applied Project (optional)

If you choose the two-year route, your second year gives you the chance to complete an Industrial Placement, giving you hands-on experience in a real company and helping you build professional connections.

Alternatively, you can take on an Independent Professional Project or Business Consultancy Project, where you work on a real business challenge and create a professional output — whether it’s a marketing plan, content campaign, or digital strategy — all supported by academic supervision.

Reputation & Employability

Graduates of this MSc often step into roles such as Digital Marketing Manager, Social Media Manager, Marketing Consultant, Senior Marketing Executive, or Content Specialist. Because the course blends strategy, analytics, leadership, and hands-on experience, it gives you an impressive skill-set that’s highly valued across industries.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What makes this MSc stand out is how much of your learning happens through doing. Instead of just studying marketing theory, you’ll spend your time working on real briefs, exploring digital tools, and developing the kind of leadership and problem-solving skills that employers look for. Whether it’s analysing data, shaping a campaign, or managing a client-style project, you’ll constantly be applying your knowledge in practical ways that mirror the digital marketing world.

And because the course is designed with industry expectations in mind, you’ll build confidence by engaging with experts, taking on collaborative projects, and exploring professional pathways through structured placements or consultancy work. All of this helps you step into senior marketing roles with a portfolio of hands-on experience behind you. Here’s how this plays out in practice:

  • You’ll work on live marketing and business briefs within modules such as Leadership in Client Management, Digital Channels Planning and Campaign Management, and Digital Marketing and Data Analytics in International Business — giving you the chance to develop solutions just as you would for a real client.

  • The course brings in industry professionals, so you can learn directly from people who lead digital campaigns, manage analytics teams, and shape marketing strategy in today’s businesses.

  • If you choose the placement pathway, you can spend a year applying your skills in a professional workplace, working on real organisational challenges and building invaluable experience.

  • If a placement isn’t the right fit, you can take on an Independent Professional Project or a Business Consultancy Project, where you’ll investigate a real-world issue or create a strategic marketing plan under academic supervision.

  • You’ll take part in group projects and collaborative tasks, helping you strengthen communication, teamwork, and project management skills — all essential in modern marketing roles.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates from this MSc often move into exciting roles like Digital Marketing Manager, Social Media Manager, Digital Marketing Consultant, Senior Marketing Executive or Content Marketing Specialist — putting you in a strong position to lead campaigns, shape brand strategy, or manage marketing teams. Because the course combines digital marketing know-how, data-driven skills, and leadership training, you walk away ready for senior or specialist roles from day one.

Here’s how your time at university supports what comes after:

  • Ongoing career support and leadership development: You’ll get assistance polishing your CV, preparing for interviews, networking with industry contacts, and sharpening leadership and communication skills — all of which give you an edge when applying for jobs.

  • Recognised professional accreditation: Your degree comes with credentials from respected marketing bodies, making your qualification stand out to employers and signalling that your skills meet industry standards.

  • Real-world experience and portfolio-ready work: With the option of a placement or a consultancy project, you graduate not only with a degree but with actual marketing work and results that you can show employers — a major advantage when job hunting.

  • Wide range of career paths across industries: Because digital marketing skills are needed in so many sectors — from tech and media to retail and consulting — you have the flexibility to pick a direction that suits your interests, whether that’s analytics, social media, brand management or strategy.

  • Networking and industry connections: Through guest lectures, industry-expert input, and university connections, you'll get opportunities to meet marketing professionals, gain mentorship, and make contacts that can lead to internships or job offers.

Further Academic Progression:
After finishing this MSc, you could choose to deepen your expertise — for example by pursuing a PhD or research-focused degree in areas like digital marketing, consumer analytics, business strategy, or management. Alternatively, you could specialise further with advanced courses in strategic communications, digital business analytics, or leadership — giving you plenty of flexibility to shape your long-term career path.
