Program Overview

The MSc Biomedical Engineering at the University of Portsmouth is an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for the integration of engineering and life sciences in healthcare technology. With a strong emphasis on innovation and real-world application, students explore a range of biomedical areas such as tissue engineering, medical instrumentation, and diagnostic imaging.

Students gain practical experience using industry-standard equipment in the university’s Future Technology Centre and Biomechanics Laboratory. Delivered by expert faculty engaged in cutting-edge research, the program allows students to engage in ongoing research projects in prosthetic design, bio-inspired materials, and healthcare monitoring systems. It welcomes students from engineering, physical or life sciences, and medical backgrounds, offering flexibility in start dates and modes of study.

Course Overview: 

  • Core: Individual Project (MSc), Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering, Biomechanics, Computational Biomechanics, Medical Instrumentation Systems

  • Optional: Advanced Materials, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Sensors and Measurement Systems, Structural Application of Finite Elements

  • Laboratory Reports

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)
