The MA TESOL is designed to help you develop professionally as an English language teacher in the global ELT context. It is suitable for whichever stage of career you find yourself. A flexible structure means that you can choose to follow your interests, whether they be digital resources, becoming a teacher trainer, or the development of materials and resources.
Normally, applicants are expected to hold an undergraduate honours degree, typically at the level of 2:2 or higher, in a relevant subject area such as English language, literature, education, foreign languages, or media. However, applicants without an undergraduate degree may still be considered based on their relevant experience in related fields or their professional background in areas such as teaching, teacher education, interpreting, journalism, cultural and social policy, publishing, and materials writing. In such cases, these applicants may be required to submit written evidence, such as an assignment from a training course or an essay provided by the admissions team, demonstrating their analytical and reflective writing skills. Additionally, all applicants must have a minimum of 12 months of full-time teaching experience, or 24 months of part-time experience, in teaching English as a second, foreign, or another language. In terms of English language proficiency, a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5 is required, with no individual component scoring below 5.5.
