Full Time MBA

12 Months On Campus Masters Program

University of Leeds

Program Overview

The Full-Time MBA at Leeds University Business School is a fast-paced, one-year programme designed to transform experienced professionals into confident, creative leaders. It’s ideal for ambitious individuals who want to accelerate their career, strengthen their strategic mindset, and gain real-world experience through hands-on business challenges.

Curriculum Structure

Your Year on the MBA

Your MBA journey starts with a strong foundation in essential business areas such as Management Decision Making, Accounting & Finance, and Global Marketing Management. These early modules help you build the core skills every leader needs — from financial understanding to the ability to make smart, evidence-based decisions.

As the programme progresses, you’ll dive deeper into strategic thinking through modules like Strategic & Entrepreneurial Management, International Business Management, and the Economics of Strategy. This is where you learn how organisations grow, compete internationally, and adapt in a rapidly changing business world.

Along the way, you’ll also develop the human and analytical side of leadership. Modules such as Creative & Innovative Thinking and Practice, People & Behaviour in Organisations, Strategic HRM & Talent Management, and Analytical Thinking & Data Management help you lead teams, work creatively, and make sense of complex data.

The year culminates in the practical, hands-on side of the MBA: Leading in Practice, plus three major live challenges — the New Venture Challenge, the Consulting Challenge, and the Innovation (Capstone) Challenge. These give you the chance to work with real organisations and apply your learning to meaningful business problems.

You’ll graduate with a sharper strategic mindset, stronger leadership capability, and the confidence to make high-impact decisions. The programme aims to develop professionals who can analyse complex situations, innovate effectively, and lead teams in a global business environment.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

Leeds University Business School holds triple accreditation — AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS — placing it among the world’s elite business schools.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)

The Leeds MBA is ranked 9th in the UK and 26th in Europe in the QS Global MBA Rankings 2025, reflecting strong career outcomes and global recognition.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What really sets the Leeds MBA apart is how deeply practical it is. From day one, you won’t just be learning theories — you’ll be applying them to real organisations, solving real business problems, and getting hands-on with industry tools. The Business School’s modern spaces, innovation labs, and collaborative rooms make it easy to experiment, lead teams, and think like an actual manager rather than just a student.

And because the MBA is built around live, client-focused work, you’ll constantly be stepping into situations that mirror real leadership challenges. It’s an immersive experience designed to build confidence and strategic ability.

Here’s how that practical learning comes alive throughout the programme:

  • Three major live business challenges baked into the curriculum — each tied to a specific module — where you’ll work on real problems for real organisations. These include:

    • The New Venture Challenge, where you develop new business ideas, sometimes directly for global companies, with guided mentoring.

    • The Consulting Challenge, where you act as a consultant to charities, social enterprises, or SMEs and deliver actionable recommendations.

    • The Innovation Challenge, where you create a brand-new product or service — and if you want to actually launch it, the university’s start-up hub, Spark, can support you with mentoring and resources.

  • International Study Tour, giving you the chance to travel and work on a consultancy project overseas — an incredible way to understand global business in a hands-on setting.

  • Strong industry connections, meaning you’ll interact with guest speakers, take part in practitioner-led sessions, and network with experts. The “Leaders in Residence” scheme brings real senior business leaders directly into your learning experience.

  • Partner organisations for previous challenges include Deloitte, NHS Trusts, Tata, Pfizer, PwC and many others — so the exposure is genuinely high-level.

  • A dedicated MBA careers coach who supports you across the programme and continues to guide you for up to three years after graduation.

  • Teaching that blends lectures with workshops, simulations, group projects and presentations, giving you confidence working in teams and communicating your ideas under pressure.

  • Modern learning spaces, including:

    • Collaborative teaching rooms designed for teamwork and discussion

    • A Trading Room with a virtual trading platform

    • The Behaviour Lab in the new Esther Simpson building

    • Postgraduate-only study spaces with desktops and quiet zones

    • Access to the extensive University of Leeds Library and research databases

  • Entrepreneurial support through Spark, which helps students turn innovation-challenge ideas into real ventures with expert guidance.

Leeds supports your career development every step of the way:

  • Personal MBA Careers Coach — You’ll have your own careers advisor offering 1:1 coaching throughout the year, plus continued support for up to three years after you graduate.

  • Professional development training — Workshops that genuinely help: branding yourself effectively, shaping a strong CV, interview practice, networking skills, and building your LinkedIn presence.

  • Hands-on industry experience — You’ll work on three major live business challenges with real organisations, including companies like Marks & Spencer, IBM, Lloyds Banking Group, KPMG, NHS, Universal Music, and a range of SMEs and social enterprises.

  • Powerful employer and alumni network — Guest speaker sessions, mentoring opportunities, and the Leaders in Residence network introduce you to senior industry professionals.

  • Entrepreneurship support — If you want to launch your own venture, the university’s Spark incubator provides guidance, resources, and startup support.

  • Strong employability reputation — Leeds University Business School is one of the most targeted by UK graduate employers, and the university overall has consistently high graduate outcomes.

  • Prestigious triple accreditation — The Business School carries AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS accreditation, giving your MBA long-term global recognition.

This combination gives many students the confidence to move into roles such as senior buyer in energy, supply chain manager, analytics consultant, digital transformation lead, associate director in marketing, and other strategic leadership positions.

Further Academic Progression:

If you’d like to continue your academic journey after the MBA, you’ll have several strong pathways:

  • Doctoral study (PhD) — Ideal if you’re interested in research or long-term academic or consulting careers.

  • Specialised Master’s or Executive Education — You could deepen your expertise in areas like finance, digital innovation, strategy, or leadership.

  • Executive programmes later in your career — Many MBA graduates return for advanced leadership or board-level training as they move toward senior executive roles.
