This MSc equips you with the analytical tools and policy insight to tackle real-world challenges — from economic inequality to climate change and healthcare funding. It’s ideal for graduates from economics or related fields, as well as professionals in civil service or policy roles, who want to deepen their skills in applied economic analysis and public decision-making.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1 (Full-Time)
You’ll start by building a strong foundation in economic theory and quantitative methods. Macroeconomic Policy covers growth, labour markets, inflation, and trade, while Microeconomic Analysis explores consumer behaviour, firm strategy, and welfare economics through real-world case studies. In Applied Economic Analysis, you’ll gain hands-on experience with tools like investment appraisal, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, and survey design — often working on live briefs from external organisations.
As the year progresses, you’ll apply your skills to policy evaluation and statistical modelling. Policy Evaluation teaches you to assess interventions using advanced statistical tools, while Public Policy Analysis focuses on taxation, health, education, and local development. You’ll also choose from optional modules such as Advanced Finance or Political Economy of Climate Crisis, allowing you to tailor your learning to your career goals.
The course concludes with a substantial Research Project on a policy issue you care about. You’ll use a “what works” approach to evaluate real-world impact, often in collaboration with external partners introduced during the Applied Economic Analysis module.
