IntM Global Markets, Local Creativities (Erasmus Mundus International Master)

2 Years On Campus Masters Program

University of Glasgow

Program Overview

The MSc Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL) is a unique two-year Erasmus Mundus program that explores how local cultural and economic dynamics shape — and are shaped by — global market forces. It’s perfect for students who want to study international business, economic development, and cultural change across multiple countries and institutions.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – University of Glasgow (Semester 1)
Students begin their journey in Glasgow with core modules such as Globalisation and the Nation State, Global Economy, and Global Varieties of Capitalism. These units build a strong foundation in global political economy, examining how states, markets, and institutions interact across different national contexts.

Year 1 – Second Consortium University (Semester 2)
Students then move to one of the partner universities — either Universitat de Barcelona, Uppsala Universitet, or Erasmus University Rotterdam — to explore regional perspectives on globalisation. Depending on the location, modules may include Creative Cities, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, or Regional Economic Development, offering hands-on insight into local economic strategies and cultural industries.

Year 2 – Third Consortium University (Semester 3)
In the third semester, students continue their studies at a third university, deepening their understanding of global-local dynamics through advanced coursework and research. Topics may include Urban Governance, Global Value Chains, or Cultural Policy, depending on the chosen pathway.

Year 2 – Dissertation (Semester 4)
Students complete an independent dissertation, supervised by faculty from their final host institution. This capstone project allows them to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge to a focused research question, often involving fieldwork, case studies, or policy analysis.
