Curriculum Structure

Semester 1 (Core Foundations):
You’ll begin with a rigorous foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and finance. Modules like Microeconomic Analysis, Macroeconomic Analysis, and Econometrics will sharpen your ability to model economic behavior, interpret macroeconomic data, and apply statistical techniques to real-world financial problems.

Semester 2 (Specialization & Research):
This term offers flexibility to tailor your learning. You’ll choose from advanced modules such as Behavioural Finance, Development Economics, International Finance, or Environmental Economics, depending on your interests. You’ll also take Research Methods in Economics and Finance, preparing you to complete a dissertation that showcases your independent thinking and analytical depth.

Summer (Dissertation):
You’ll conduct original research in a topic of your choice, supported by expert supervision and access to specialist software in Surrey’s designated economics computer lab.
