Program Overview

The MSc Applied Psychology with Extended Professional Practice at the University of Hertfordshire combines rigorous academic study with hands-on professional experience, extending over two years with a full-time work placement. It is ideal for students who wish to apply psychological theory in real-world settings—such as mental health, education, business, or social services—and build practical skills alongside research competence. 

Curriculum structure:
In the first year, students take the Evidence-Based Practice module, developing their ability to evaluate psychological research and apply it to practice. They also study core research modules such as Mixed Methods Research and Advanced Statistics, which prepare them to design, conduct, and analyse applied research. Alongside, learners choose optional modules tailored to their interests—these include Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Educational Psychology, and Cognitive Neuropsychology. In the second year, students complete a Professional Experience & Reflexivity placement (60 credits), gaining real-world experience in a workplace approved by the university, while reflecting on their professional development.
