We offer two undergraduate jazz studies degrees, a doctoral jazz studies minor, jazz ensembles and undergraduate and graduate coursework in jazz improvisation, composition and arranging, and history. Study with top jazz performers and composers in the heart of a vibrant jazz scene that rivals that of much bigger cities in quality and quantity.
From the School of Music’s new Hamel Music Center; to the Wisconsin Union’s historic theater, the intimate Play Circle, the iconic Memorial Terrace, the low-key Rathskeller, and the bustling Sett; to our long-running partnership with Tandem Press; to the Overture Center, Café Coda jazz club, the Arts + Literature Laboratory, North Street Cabaret, and outdoor concerts and festivals at the top of State Street; to venues throughout Madison’s neighborhoods and its surrounding communities; there is always great music to hear and many opportunities for UW-Madison students to augment their formal studies with gigs in Madison and beyond.
