Program Overview

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Theatre for Youth degree is a terminal degree program designed to educate theatre artists for leadership roles within the growing field of theatre with and for youth. Candidates for this program demonstrate a dedication to working with young people through drama-in-education and theatre for young audiences. The Master of Fine Arts in Theatre for Youth is a 60-semester-hour degree program. Students take classes in Drama-in-Education, Theatre for Youth, Theatre-in-Education, puppetry, and directing. Additional electives ensure the program caters to each student's area of interest. Professional guest artists engage in residencies each year, bringing multiple perspectives to the curriculum. The MFA in Theatre for Youth program is competitive, accepting only two students every other year.
