The School of Counseling prepares students for counseling in elementary and secondary schools. This program includes the course work and experiences required for endorsement as a school counselor. Students working toward certification as K-12 school counselors should consult with the coordinator of the School Counseling program about the requirement of the state where they plan to work Some states require teacher certification in order to obtain school counselor endorsement.

Master of Arts in School Counseling prepares counselors to offer specialized services in elementary and secondary schools. It also provides counselors with the essential knowledge and skills to work collaboratively with principals, teachers, parents and community leaders to ensure that the students receive the support they need to become productive members of society. Counselors are also trained to address the developmental needs of at risk and special needs students.
