Program Overview

Our Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education program provides preparation leading to certification in the area of Intellectual Disabilities or Learning Disabilities and Elementary Education. Instruction in special education, elementary education, and psychology is designed to give the prospective teacher a strong background for working with students with intellectual disabilities. Directed student teaching is arranged within our area public schools.Our program prepares you to become an effective teacher with an in-depth knowledge base of your field and appropriate teaching strategies for the developmental level of your students, guided by our faculty who continually challenge students to integrate theory with practice.Converse's teacher preparation programs comprise a wide diversity of field and clinical experiences in public schools.
