Program Overview

The Masters of Science (M.S.) Degree is the traditional post-bachelors degree, awarded by the Graduate School. There are four options for the M.S. degree: Thesis Option: 24 course credits at the 500/600 level + 6 credits of ECE 690 (M.S. Thesis credit). A minimum of 12 credits (of the 24) must be taken at the 600 level. A maximum of 9 non-ECE credits may be taken. This option culminates with a thesis and a successful thesis.* Paper Option: 24 course credits at the 500/600 level + 6 credits of ECE 691 (M.S. Paper credit). A minimum of 12 credits (of the 24) must be taken at the 600 level. A maximum of 9 non-ECE credits may be taken. This option culminates with a thesis and a successful paper defense.* M.S. Advanced Level Project Option: 27 course credits + 3 credits of project work ECE 692. A minimum of 12 credits (of the 27) must be taken at the 600 level. A maximum of 9 non-ECE credits may be taken.This option requires an oral presentation on the project.* Coursework Option: 30 course credits at the 500/600 level. A minimum of 15 credits (of the 30) must be taken at the 600 level. A maximum of 9 non-ECE credits may be taken. This option requires an oral presentation in 1 of 4 specified ECE 600-level courses.*

The M.S. degree program is intended for persons having an accredited baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering, but is available to those with other backgrounds. Applicants with other backgrounds should plan on taking some undergraduate background course work. Students interested in the M.S. degree program should consult the director of graduate studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The University of Louisville is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award master s degrees.
