As you prepare to become a family nurse practitioner (FNP), you will engage with faculty and mentors from interdisciplinary health care fields such as pharmacy, epidemiology, and informatics. Your career can take many paths, providing primary care services for individuals across the lifespan. You may choose to establish a private practice, work in partnership with a physician or family nurse practitioner, or work in urgent care, specialty clinics, long-term care facilities, home-care, or hospital specialty units.
• Bowie State University Application • A U.S. bachelor’s degree in nursing or its international equivalent from a college or university of recognized standing • Official TranscriptsA current, full, active and unencumbered license as a registered nurse in a state, territory or commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of ColumbiaAt least three (3) years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting prior to admission to the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Recent completion of a course in health assessment and pathophysiology is recommendedSubmit three recommendations from an immediate supervisor and two professional colleagues. Forms are included with the nursing program applicationSubmit one copy of your current RN licensure verification and one copy of your current CPR certificationSubmit a 150- to 200-word personal statement of goals and objectives for pursuing graduate nursing study. It must be typed and double-spacedSubmit a current, completed physical examination/health history, which includes proof of immunizations (MMR, varicella, polio, hepatitis B, and DPT or Tdap).
