The Graduate Programs of the Biology Department endeavor to provide an academic atmosphere in which graduate students and faculty can work together as a community of scholars. Through the free exchange of information, it is hoped that each student will broaden his/her intellectual perspectives, prepare for a productive vocation, and realize his/her potential as a scientist and as a responsible and informed member of society.

The Master of Science degree in Biology focuses on the preparation of a research thesis. Graduates who earn the Master of Science degree should possess an academic background adequate to enable them to proceed into advanced academic (doctoral) or professional (e.g., medical, dental, or other health-related programs) programs, or to enter the work force in an array of biological contexts (e.g., government agencies, environmental consulting, teaching, biological products development and marketing).
