Mathematics is a large graduate program training students in all areas of pure and applied math, including algebra, logic, analysis, differential equations, numerical analysis, fluid dynamics, and geometry and topology. PhD students carry out a substantial individual research project under the guidance of a faculty advisor. The graduates are prepared for a wide range of mathematical careers, including academic research in math, teaching at the college level, and mathematical work in industry.
