Program Overview

This course will examine the role of intermediaries with respect to the negotiation and conclusion, or fixing of contracts for the carriage of goods by sea. The course will specifically examine the procedure for negotiating contracts including charter parties, the applicable chartering terms, the relationship between the intermediaries and the merchants, charterers, carriers and owners, and the relevancy of agency law. The course will be taught by Andrei Kharchanka, Manager of Risk, Claims and Litigation for BBC Chartering & Logistic GmbH & Co. KG of Leer, Germany. BBC specializes in project cargo and is the world s largest operator of breakbulk vessels. (1 credit).
