Program Overview

This course presents fundamental principles of the civil law as they relate to property; Louisiana Civil Code, Preliminary Title, Articles 1-15; Book II, Articles 448-532, 784-791; Book III, Articles 3412-3555. Topics include: introduction to the civil law system, things, ownership, possession, liberative and acquisitive prescription. The course emphasizes analysis of institutions in the light of civilian methodology, jurisprudence, and doctrine. First-year students must take Property, Civil Law OR Property, Common Law. (4 credits).
